New US-China Standards Portal Launched

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) have jointly announced the launch of a new web site that will provide easier access to U.S and China government regulations and industry standards covering consumer products.

The new Standards Portal (www.standardsportal.org) contains extensive, dual-language (both English and Mandarin) information on the structure and operation of U.S. and Chinese standards systems, as well as a database of 2000 standards (1000 from each country) deemed to be essential to trade between the two economic superpowers. The web site also includes access to nearly 300,000 other national, regional and international standards and guidelines.

"The Standards Portal demonstrates a commitment by our three organizations to foster cross-border trade between the U.S. and China, and to promote the ongoing importance of trade development through mutual information exchange and cooperation," says ANSI president and CEO Joe Bhatia. Bhatia and ANSI say that additional information will be added to the Standards Portal web site based on "the interests of the web site's users."
