EMC Services in San Francisco Bay Area
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has entered into an exclusive
agreement with Elliott Laboratories to provide EMC testing and
consulting services to UL customers in the San Francisco Bay Area and
surrounding regions. UL will outsource all of its EMC business in
this territory to Elliott Laboratories. UL's choice of Elliott
Laboratories for this partnership is testimony to Elliott's efforts
to build the industry's leading EMC engineering facilities in
Northern California.
"We are honored that UL has selected us for this partnership and
we look forward to servicing the needs of UL's considerable customer
base in this region", said Eddie Pavlu, President of Elliott
Laboratories. "We have made significant investments in the expansion
of our business over the last three years and this partnership
reflects the hard work and sound planning that has gone into our
efforts to provide the highest quality service and most expansive
testing facilities in the region."

CPSC Reports Record Year for Recalls and Penalties
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recorded a
banner year in its enforcement actions against unsafe consumer
products.
The federal agency charged with protecting the public from unsafe
consumer products reports that it obtained the voluntary recall of
397 different consumer products during fiscal year 2005, the highest
number of product safety recalls by the agency in the past 10 years,
and the highest annual total ever for products not covered by a
mandatory safety standard. Individual product recall records were
also set for all-terrain vehicles, with 15 recalls issued, and
rechargeable batteries, with 10 recalls issued.
The CPSC also set a new record for the value of civil penalties
imposed on manufacturers and distributors for failing to report
defective consumer products, with a total of $8.8 million imposed
against six different companies. Federal law requires manufacturers,
importers, distributors and retailers to file a report with the CPSC
when a product does not comply with applicable safety rules, when a
product contains a defect that poses a substantial risk of injury, or
when the product presents an unreasonable risk of serious injury or
death. The agency notes that it received a total of 547 reports in
compliance with these requirements during fiscal 2005, an increase of
nearly 100 reports over the previous record set in 2004.
